We are happy to invite you for this year’s meeting of the Association of Friends (Spolek) of the Protestant Theological Faculty of Charles University. It will take place in Prague from
13th to 15th November 2026.
The theme of this year’s meeting is ‘Funeral Culture in the Secular Age’. At our seminar in Prague, we aim to explore how the increasing pluralisation of society is affecting funeral culture. In the Czech Republic in particular, a wide variety of funeral practices already exist, and burial in a cemetery is no longer compulsory. We will reflect on the theological implications of new forms of burial: how can we view these plural forms of burial in the light of Christ’s death and resurrection? Do they foster remembrance and hope in the spirit of the Christian faith, do they maybe even open up new perspectives? Are there limits? At the same time, we also want to hear about how the churches in the Czech Republic are dealing with this reality.
Of course, we will offer the basic programme as every year, getting to know each other on Friday with some refreshments, seminar day with field trip on Saturday and tips for local church services for Sunday.
Information about accommodation and how to register for our meeting will arrive later. But go ahead and confirm your holidays already at work for Spolek weekend. If you wish to organize your travels already as well, it is good to know that we will start around 17:00 on Friday and on Sunday there is no mandatory activity for everyone.

We would also like to remind those of you who are members of our association / would like to become a member, not to forget to pay your membership fee. The minimum is 300 CZK/year, but you can of course contribute more (Note: A membership fee of 300 CZK was approved by the Association’s members at the Annual Meeting in 2024). If not for these contributions, we would not be able to organize our annual conferences. In case you participate at this year’s conference, you can pay your membership fee in cash (in CZK) in Prague.

The costs per night (including breakfast):
- single room 700 CZK (ca 30 EUR)/per night
- double room 500 CZK (ca 21 EUR) /per night/ per person
The original prices of the accommodation are doubled but the Spolek will cover 50% of these expenses. You can pay your accommodation in cash (in CZK) during the Spolek meeting at the Faculty or you can send your payment to the Spolek bank account (details of the bank account see at the end of this letter).
